Success is...

Success means different things to different individuals.  It's personal, evolving over time, and provides the framework for how we measure our achievements, efforts, and even our happiness.  As a career coach, my mission is to empower Asian Women to define and achieve success in their careers. This journey often begins with a simple question: What does success mean to you?

Many of us are taught from a young age to achieve success, yet few take the time to truly define what it means to them.  In my role, I've had the privilege of asking my clients this very question, and the responses have been as diverse as they are enlightening.  I'm incredibly grateful to the amazing women who have entrusted me with their stories and insights.  Here, I'd like to share some of these valuable insights with you:

Personal Fulfillment and Alignment:

"doing something that challenges you, brings joy, work that is aligned with my values”
"liking my job, being happy at my job, being proud of my accomplishments”
“making a living for doing something that you truly enjoy while being able to maintain work-life balance”

Financial Stability:

“economically independent”
“making enough money to support yourself and your family, to give you the lifestyle and the stability that you want for your life, including in retirement”

Professional Competency and Impact:

“contribute to something bigger than yourself, either a cause or a collective endeavor…to be competent and have some talent for the work you do…ultimately reaching a level of responsibility and autonomy where you can make decisions and teach or lead others”
“being very skilled and knowledgeable of your particular area; and in turn being respected and acknowledged for that expertise”
“doing meaningful work that could positively impact some aspects of the world”
“finding out what one’s uniquely situated to do and the thing that can benefit oneself and others around them; fully utilizing one’s potential to accomplish this thing"

So, how do you define success in your career?  If you haven't given it much thought, I encourage you to take some time for reflection and self-discovery.  This process can help you make clearer career choices, set meaningful goals, and ultimately, lead you to a more fulfilling and rewarding career journey.
