Career is not a destination, but a journey?

What does this mean anyway?

For me, it's a mindset of embracing the continuation of past career successes and failures to the present moment and into the future.

When I hike, I don't try to reach the summit as fast as I can. In fact, I'm pretty slow. Sometimes, I don't even get to the summit, or when I do, there is not much of a view because of fog or overgrown trees. But I still do it because I enjoy walking through the trees, hearing the sounds of birds and other living creatures and seeing the magic of nature.

Similarly, focusing on the overall career journey allows you to celebrate the "little wins" along the way and gauge your progress by how far you have come, not how far you have yet to go. If you only have eyes on the destination, then you lose sight of all the opportunities in the middle to learn and grow, making the journey that much less enjoyable. Goals are an important part of the journey; just not the ultimate end but snapshots in time.
